6 Days Left

This Sunday, October 7th, CITYChurch will celebrate One year of meeting together on Sunday's.  Actually there was a group that met together in the park each Sunday for a month before that.  And actually there was a group that met in our home for a year before that.  The life of CITYChurch has always been deeply rooted in "What's next".  Moving from an idea, to a small group, to a little bit larger group in the park, and then to a little bit larger group at the Rec Center one year ago.  That "what's next" spirit is still a big part of our journey.

After Jesus was raised from the dead, He appeared several times to his disciples.  One of those accounts is in John 21.  Jesus calls out to them as they are coming in from a long, unsuccessful night of fishing and tells them to put their net on the other side.  Of course, they catch a lot of fish.  When all the disciples reach the shore Jesus feeds them breakfast.

We don't know what the conversation was at breakfast that day.  Maybe it was reliving old times.  Maybe it was just enjoying the moment of a successful catch, good food, and being in the presence of their teacher again.  I am sure that those seven disciples wished the moment could last forever, but like all such moments, it had to end.  I would think that those guys cherished the memory of that morning for the rest of their days.  To be able, in the midst of the confusion of life and what was going to happen to them, they got to take a break from the stress, and just have breakfast with Jesus.

This Sunday, we are going to take some time to just have breakfast with Jesus.  Just enjoy what God has done, and where we are RIGHT NOW!  I know a lot of us are happy that God has brought us to where we are today, as opposed to where we were physically, emotionally, and spiritually one year ago.

After that breakfast Jesus pulled Peter aside.  He asked "Do you love me?"  Three times Peter answered "Yes".  And then Jesus said "Feed my sheep".  What's next?  There are hungry sheep.  It is good to take time and enjoy the moment, but there is work to be done.

This Sunday will not just be a celebration of the past, but a look toward the future.  What's next?  I can't wait to share that with you this coming Sunday!
